Let There be Light, Xmas Displays Around the Valley

As we mentioned elsewhere, we started something of a holiday tradition here at DownStreet last year by devoting the Out & About section of the Winter Holidays issue to Christmas light displays around the neighborhood.  ...

This year, however, we're going at it a little differently.  ...

Beginning this weekend, we'll begin taking photos and continue on through the twelve days of Christmas, right on up to the old-date Feast of the Epiphany on January 6th.  On Monday, December 10th, we'll publish the first them, then continue at least once a week to add new pictures from successive shoots.

We decided on this approach for several reasons:  First, we know that, while we saw some folks out on Thanksgiving weekend stringing the lights and setting up displays, not everyone will have taken their Christmas lighting and displays on as early.  So, if we shoot week-by-week, we're more likely not to miss a great display.

Second, while we could have gone with some 'stock' shots from last year, or pictures we'd taken before we even started the magazine, we're hoping that this feature will become a guide to Xmas lights and displays around the neighborhood worth seeing.  So it will scarcely do you any good to see displays that are no longer there.  {Of course, we'll provide directions as best we can for locations which may not be obvious by name.}

Finally, we're not sure if you'll feel the same way, but it occurred to us that it would be fun -- kind of like unwrapping presents, one by one -- to have this feature unfold over the next several weeks.

Well ...

We hope you enjoy what's to come here as much we've enjoyed taking the pictures so far.  ...  For now, though, we will leave you with two from last year that we're almost certain will still be there this year -- the bandstand on the Bristol Town Green, and the display across from the Middlebury Inn.  ...
