In the Service  ...
   in Honor of Veterans Day
    Thanks to Those Who Served

"In the service."  That's how lots of veterans refer to their time in the military.  So it's fitting that we honor veterans here, in our Community Service section of DownStreet.  Of course, the "community" they served goes well beyond our local neighborhood.  ... Vets worked in the service of the country.

Veterans Day ...
On November 11th, 1918, at 11:00 hours, the armistice was signed which brought an end to WW I  -- the "War ..." {or so it was thought} "... to End All Wars."  ...

A year later, on the 1st anniversary of that event, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in honor of fallen Allied soldiers and named it Armistice Day.  It eventually became the Veterans Day we now know and is celebrated in France, in Great Britain {as Remembrance Sunday}, and in Canada {Remembrance Day}.

In honor and remembrance of those who have served, DownStreet would like to offer the following tribute:
