DownStreet Neighborhood Almost Pulls Off
   Div. II Soccer Sweep
    Vergennes Girls Take the Trophy
    Mt. Abe Boys' Lose in Closing Minutes

Girls Div. II:  Vergennes vs. Montpelier ...
After making their way past Oxbow, Harwood, and U-32 in the earlier rounds of the Div. II Soccer play-off's, the No. 2 Vergennes Girls Soccer team (11-5-1) squared off against No. 4 Montpelier (10-6-1) at Centennial Field on October 27th.  

With a scoreless tie after almost 80 minutes of play, Vergennes Captain Erika Miner nailed one into the upper left corner from more than 30 yards out to give the Vergennes its first Div. II Championship in some 18 years.

Boys Div. II:  Mount Abe vs. Rice...
In the early rounds, Mount Abe took care of Lamoille, Green Mountain Valley, and U-32 to make their way to the State finals for the Boys Div. II Championship game at Centennial Field on November 3rd.   It was the first time Mount Abe had a shot at the title since they tied Vergennes for a co-championship back in '82.  

That morning, the No. 2 Eagles [13-4] met No. 4 Rice in a game that would go scoreless almost to the end.  But with less than 2 minutes to play, Rice finally managed a goal ... and a minute later, another ... handing Mount Abe a 2-0 defeat to take the Boys Div. II State Championship.
