Links to Religion & Spirit On-Line
The amount of info on the web is enormous, as anyone who's ever tried to run a search can attest to.  And, to put it all in context, best estimates say that only a fraction, maybe 20 - 40 % of what's out there is actually making its way to the search engines.
    Well  ...
Here at DownStreet, we'd like to try to help.  So each issue, we post a few links in Religion & Spirit to sites that might interest you.  Sometimes the links will be related to one another  ...  sometimes we'll just offer up a somewhat random sampling.  In either case, we think we might be able to help you find the kind of site you've been looking for.
Of course, while we can't vouch for the fact that every link we provide will be of interest to everyone, we do our best to filter out the noise and the bustle.  ...
We hope you enjoy the following sites as much as we do.

The Pillars of Islam
Links to Information & Resources on Islam and the Islamic Faith
In an effort to provide resources for those in the community of Islamic faith during the holy fast of Ramadan, and to provide information for others who may be seeking a better understanding of Islam, especially in light of recent events, in this month's Links to Religion & Spirit On-Line, DownStreet is pleased to be able to offer these links to The Pillars of Islam.  We are foregoing our more customary practice of presenting and ranking just a few sites in order to provide more links than usual.  ...

  • ..Islam.com - Home
Islam.com provides a comprehensive and well-organized collection, including articles on an Introduction to Islam, the Attributes of Allah, a Chronology of Events in the Life of Muhammad (PBUH), Muslim Festivals, a Q & A, a Glossary of Terms, the Hajj (pilgrimmage), and Salat, The Prayer.  There is also a collection of links under the heading of Islam to  Al-Quran, Al-Hadith, Muhammad (pbuh), Shriah, Way of Life, Islam & Science, Islamic Nations, History, Islam in the West, the Pillars of Islam, Philosophy, and Islamic Education.
    .
  • Ummah.com
The Ummah site is also solid, providing front page articles on The Importance of Zakah (charity), a Description of the Prophet (pbuh), and a piece entitled "The new world disorder?" about our War on Terrorism.  There are also sections on the Qur'an, Sunnah, Science, the Five Pillars, Social Life, and an Islamic Q&A.
    .
  • The Sunnah Islamic Page
This is actually a link to an interior page instead of the home page at al-sunnah.com.  The reason is that it is one of the most solid resources on general info about Islam we found -- with links to other al-sunnah pages, as well as to outside resources -- but it was difficult to find from the al-sunnah home page.  Be sure to check out the top of the page, as well, for links to more info about the Qur'aan, Mohammed, and their Islamic perspective on Jesus, as well as a link to other Articles.
    .
  • IslamiCity.com - Mosque
As with the al-sunnah site above, this page, too, is an interior page, and for much the same reason.  There are a number of links in each of several categories, with titles like Scripture & Prophets, Basics, Pillars, Society, and References.
    .
  • The Saudi Arabian Information Resource - Islam, The Faith on which The Kingdom is Founded
With the holiest of Islamic sites located in Saudi Arabia and Arabic the official language of Islam {much the way Latin had been until recently in the Roman Catholic Rite}, this page among the Saudi Arabian Information Resource site contains a number of links {along the right-hand window pane} to topics like Before Islam, The Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him, The Five Tenets of Islam, The Holy Qur'an, Ramadan, Hijira, Teachings of Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab, and the Expansion of the Holy Mosques in Makkah & Madinah.
    .
  • Introduction to the Articles and Pillars of Islam
Islamic Server of Muslim Students Assoc. -- USC
    The first link is to a solid single-{web}page introduction to the basic tenets of Islam put together by the Muslim Students Association of the Univ. of Southern California.  It covers just about all the basics, including:  The Meaning of Islam, the foundational Articles of Faith {with Islamic views on The purpose of life, Status of Human Beings, and Salvation}, and Pillars of Islam and Application of Faith.  ...  If you visit the second link, you'll find additional material, and you may want to check out two interesting articles, one entitled "What is NOT Islam," and the other, "Islam vs. ...," a comparative study of Islam with other religions.  {The links are on left, under the heading Comparative Analysis.}
    .
  • PBS - Islam Empire of Faith
It's beginning to seem like, whatever the subject, PBS has one of the better sites devoted to it.  And the subject of Islam is no exception.  You name it, they cover it -- from Art, Architecture, and Astronomy through Muhammad, Saladin and Rumi, to Zakat.
  • DownStreet Magazine: Special Report
Terrorism + The Coming War: Links to Sites about Islam

Not to blow our own horn, but as part of our effort to educate and keep folks informed about current events, our Special Report includes a section devoted to links on all sorts of topics related to terrorism and the war against it.  Among them is this page, with links to a few choice sites, including the Middle East Institute, Islam & Islamic Middle East resources at Green Library at Stanford, an Islamic Studies site out of the Univ. of Georgia,  The Journal of Arabic and Islamic Studies, and more.
