    The amount of info on the web is enormous, as anyone who's ever tried to run a search can attest to.  And, to put it all in context, best estimates say that only a fraction, maybe 20 - 40 % of what's out there is actually making its way to the search engines. 
    Well  ...  Here at DownStreet, we'd like to try to help.  So each issue, we post a few links in Books & Lit to sites that might interest you.  Sometimes the links will be related to one another  ...  sometimes we'll just offer up a somewhat random sampling.  In either case, we think we might be able to help you find the kind of site you've been looking for.
    Of course, while we can't vouch for the fact that every link we provide will be of interest to everyone, we do our best to filter out the noise and the bustle.  ...

What America's Reading
   Books Related to the Attacks, the War on Terrorism & More
Given the events of September 11th and their aftermath, we thought it might be interesting to see what America's been reading.  ...  Have book sales been affected -- not in terms of how many books are being sold, but which books are being sold -- by the attacks and the War on Terrorism?  

In order to get at the info, we visited the three top on-line sites for best seller lists -- The New York Times Book Review, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.  

Of course, the lists vary in format from one to the other.  The Times, for example, doesn't mix fiction with nonfiction or advice and how-to, while both Amazon and Barnes & Noble do, though the latter do allow you to see separate lists for each category, as well as more specific lists, too.  ...  In any case, here's what we found when we searched for ...

What America's Reading

The following list presents some of the titles that seem to have come up the charts in response to the attacks of September 11th and subsequent events.  Titles are given, along with ranks on the various best-seller lists, according to the key, below.

Of course, lest you think that this is all America is reading, think again.  Harry Potter, as well as an endless list of inspirational, how-to, and advice books continue to top the lists, as well as the staple fiction best-sellers, including several in the spy genre.
