If you read our Memorial Day issue, then you know that we wanted to give Thanks to Those Who Served ... A Tribute to Veterans of All Wars.  But while putting together that issue, it occurred to some of us that there are stories, important stories from those who served in combat, that are slowly disappearing.

...

When I was young, just about every adult I knew -- my father, my uncles, all the men in the neighborhood -- had served in WW II.  Some of my older cousins, and others their age, had served in Korea.  There were even a fair few men around who remembered WW I.

But memories of WW I are now completely history, and soon enough, the same will be true of WW II and Korea.  Before that day comes, then, we want to talk with any and all vets who have served, particularly those who have served in combat, for next November's Veterans Day issue.

...

If you are willing to talk with us, we'd like to hear from you.  ...

On our end, we'll set up a time to get together at your convenience -- either with you individually, or in a small group with your friends or chapter members.  We'd like to record what you have to say about your war experiences for publication in our Veterans Day issue and / or subsequent issues which might have articles connected with one of the wars.  If it matters to you that the person you speak to also be a combat vet, we can assure we'll respect your wishes on that point.

As an alternative, if you prefer to write your story or recollections down, you can take that route instead and send it to us by mail, e-mail, or however is most convenient for you.

...

In addition to speaking with vets, we will also be looking to speak with those who watched over the home front during the wars ... wives, mothers, especially Gold Star Moms, fiancées, those who were unable to serve, and any others with recollections specifically connected with any of the wars.

So, if you are among those who would be willing to speak with us, please get in touch at your earliest convenience.  We hope to start interviews next month and continue collecting your stories throughout the coming months and all over Addison & southern Chittenden counties, up to our Veterans Day issue, though we hope to continue beyond that point.
