Working
Together Links to Working Together On-Line
. Links
to Working Together On-Line The amount of info on
the web is enormous, as anyone who's ever tried to run a search can attest
to. And, to put it all in context, best estimates say that only a
fraction, maybe 20 - 40 % of what's out there is actually making its way to the
search engines. Well ...
Here at DownStreet, we'd like to try to help. So each issue, we
post a few links in Working Together to sites that might interest you.
Sometimes the links will be related to one another ... sometimes
we'll just offer up a somewhat random sampling. In either case, we think
we might be able to help you find the kind of site you've been looking for.
Of course, while we can't vouch for the fact that every link we provide will be
of interest to everyone, we do our best to filter out the noise and the
bustle. ... We hope you enjoy the following sites as
much as we do. Links
to The WTO & Its Adversaries The following links take you to the
WTO site, as well as to sites with related info. ... We've dispenses
with the usual ratings. ...
The
WTO website Since the WTO and is the focus of this collection of
links, this link to its web site seemed like the best place to begin.
... What will you find here? . More
than you can probably digest, or care to. ... The Home Page is
fairly unassuming, with a few cartoon-like drawings on the left to accompany
the main links from there -- to info about The WTO, as well as Trade Topics
and Community/Forum sections. The center of the page is offers current
articles and News of interest, as well as current Events. The
right-hand links entitled "Watch This Space" -- take you to
publications, papers, and analyses of WTO efforts. But we heartily
recommend jumping straight to the WTO's Site
Map -- an extensive listing of everything within each of the
sub-categories already mentioned, plus other material not readily apparent
from the Home Page. . Whatever you think
of the WTO -- friend or foe -- this site is a necessary stop on considering
NAFTA, the FTAA, or any other WTO undertakings.. . Independent
Media Center [IMC] -- FTAA Coverage Just as with the WTO site,
there's no question about where the IndyMedia Center's stand is on the FTAA.
... This link is to the FTAA section of IMC site. They've been
providing on-going coverage -- including news, commentary, live &
recorded audio and video feeds, and more -- right from the get-go. . Whether
this site will remain active and for how long, we're not sure. But as
of this writing, there were links to live broadcasts of IMC afiliates in
Québec, Philly, DC, NY, and Vermont. There was also separate page IMC
coverage from Brazil, Hudson-Mohawk, Montreal, Ontario, Seattle, San
Diego, and Vermont. But of more enduring value were a number of links
to related Resources, including A20.Org, Black Bloc, Buffalo Border, CLAC,
CMAQ, Direct Action Network, Maine Corporate Overload, Plattsburg Action
Network, SALAMI, StopFTAA.Org, and the Vermont Action Network. . There
was, evidently, a considerable effort put into organizing the protests, in
Québec and elsewhere. But IMC and its related sites should prove
useful for some time to come. ... . Vermont
Indymedia This link takes you directly to the Vermont version of
IMC content. ... The emphasis is on news articles & photos,
with newswire feeds, reports filed by locals and others, and a chronology of
events about protests worldwide. . Vermont
Action Network: FTAA Info The Vermont Action Network offers this
site of info related to the FTAA. The section is divided up into
Background info, Case Studies, More Info, Action Info, Legal Info,
Organizations Working Against the FTAA, and Posters. Lots of links
will take you to informative sites, including articles by local writers, as
well as IMC resources out of Vancouver, and Canadians.org {see below}. . Council
of Canadians Campaigns: Trade and Investment Publications The
Canadians.org site -- the web site of The Council of Canadians, an
independent, non-partisan citizens' interest group -- is probably the best
we've seen of what's out there on the topic of free trade and
investment. This page links to all their publication, brochures,
papers, and analyses of the FTAA, NAFTA, and the WTO. They also
provide plnety of info on GATS [the General Agreement on Trade in Services]
in what they call a GATS
Municipal Resolutions Kit. ... This site is definitely worth
visiting.

******* If you know of any
links that you think are worthwhile, why not send them along to ...
links@downstreetmagazine.com
... If we agree, we'll be happy to include
them in an upcoming issue to pass the word along. ...
Thanks. *******
