Links to Music & Sound On-Line

The amount of info on the web is enormous, as anyone who's ever tried to run a search can attest to.  And, to put it all in context, best estimates say that only a fraction, maybe 20 - 40 % of what's out there is actually making its way to the search engines.
    Well  ...
Here at DownStreet, we'd like to try to help.  So each issue, we post a few links in Music & Sound to sites that might interest you.  Sometimes the links will be related to one another  ...  sometimes we'll just offer up a somewhat random sampling.  In either case, we think we might be able to help you find the kind of site you've been looking for.
Of course, while we can't vouch for the fact that every link we provide will be of interest to everyone, we do our best to filter out the noise and the bustle.  ...
We hope you enjoy the following sites.

Theatrically Speaking

After seeing ... and thoroughly appreciating ... the CVU Drama Club production of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap last time around, it had got us to thinking about theatre more generally.  ...  That's when we first ran these links, which we'll continue for another month.

This months Links to Music & Sound On-Line link to things theatrical.  Here, you'll find links to what's going on in Vermont, and what's to come ...as well as a ton of on-line resources linked from the New York Public Library, and a quirky little site for fans of musical theatre.  ...

  • American Theater Web -- Regional Theater / New England / Vermont
The American Theater Web [ATW] site, which is a comprehensive resource for things theatrical, also provides a series of thorough guides to regional theatre.  This one links directly to the listing for Vermont theatre.  ...
    .
ATW lists theatres for Vermont large and small, alphabetically by town, 24 in all -- from Bread & Puppet, the Barre Opera House, and the Oldcastle Theatre Company in Bennington, through Lyndonville's Twilight Players and Montpelier's Lost Nation, to The Theater Factory in Underhill, Waitsfield's Valley Players, and the Weston Playhouse.  Click on any of the monthly icons at the top of the page and you'll get a listing of what's playing for that month.  If the theatre group has a web site, you'll find the link, as well as a solid little write-up and the repertoire for the current season.
    .
All in all ATW is a great site ... easy to use, easy to navigate, and packed with useful info for theatre buffs.

  • Jill Hobgood's Musical Sites List
This site is a personal page out of St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN.  It's a quirky little offering with a header title of Theatricopia, which, as it's sub-title makes clear, provides an "abundance of links and more for Musical Theatre fans."

  • NY Public Library for the Performing Arts: Theatre Resources on the Internet
Let's face it.  Few resources can rival those of the New York Public Library.  And one of the wonderful things about the internet is that you don't have to travel to Lincoln Center to get at some of the invaluable resources the NYPL for the Performing Arts has to offer.
    .
This page -- which is a sub-page of a sub-page of a sub-page -- still contains enough links to links to on-line resources to keep you occupied for quite some time.  Among the Theatre Resources pages you'll find links to ... Play Indexes, Musical Theatre, On and Off Broadway, Acting, Full text Play Sources, International Theatre Resources, Other Theatre Arts, including Vaudeville & Circus, Journals & E-zines, Theatre History, Theatre Companies, Design & Stagecraft, Libraries, Museums & Collections, and much more.
    .
If you don't have the time or the inclination to drive down to The City to take advantage of the NYPL in person, then this site can be a quick & thoroughly satisfying alternative.
