The Artists & Albums Professor Longhair -- Henry Roeland Byrd -- is the man Allen Touissant referred to as "the Bach of Rock." Credited with the creation of the New Orleans piano style, he was the teacher of greats like Fats Domino, Dr. John, James Booker and Touissant himself. Accompanying the Professor's piano & vocals on these tunes from his Crawfish Fiesta album [Jazz heritage Series]:
Beau Soleil -- who you may know from Prairie Home Companion -- has written lots of new material in the Cajun tradition. But the album from which these songs were taken -- L'écho [Forward/Rhino Records] -- is a tribute to the classical songs and performers of Cajun music. Beau Soleil brings together a great group of musicians, including:
