Monthly Straw Poll: Should There Be a
Constitutional Amendment Against Flag Burning? Note:

heard ... Background: Vermont is one
of only two states that have yet to pass a bill seeking a constitutional
amendment against flag-burning. Of course, there are some who think
such efforts actually detract from more important and more pressing
issues. But there are others, evidently enough others to make it a
hot topic up at the State House, who feel that the issue of flag-burning
should come off the back of the legislative stove and get the attention
they think it deserves. The arguments, at least in
brief, go two ways: On the one hand, opponents seem most often to
point to the 1st amendment right of free speech. On the other,
proponents suggest that there are some things which ought to be considered
beyond the limits of free speech, and that the flag is certainly one of
