*NOTES: RDA,
the "Recommended Dietary Allowance" which appeared on packaging for
years, was replaced in 1997 by the DRI, "Dietary Reference
Intakes." The figures used are from "Dietary
Reference Intakes: Recommended levels for individual intake," Food and
Nutrition Board, Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences.
1998. Where no specific need for an element has been established, but
current thought holds that it ought to be included in a regular diet, an
Adequate Intake [AI] figure is used instead. . DRI's
differ according to age, gender, lactation, etc. The DRI's used were for
adult men & women. Where there were differing RDA's for men vs. women,
an average of the two was taken. Please consult the original document
{linked above} for the specifics for age & gender. . The
figures for maple syrup content were taken from "Nutritional Value of Pure
Maple Syrup," by M. F. Morselli. Where variable amounts of
ingredients were listed for maple syrup, only those ingredients certain to be
present were used, and, here, too, an average was taken between the high and low
figures. SOURCES: Morselli, M.F. 1975.
