Help with Interior Painting Projects

The amount of info on the web is enormous, as anyone who's ever tried to run a search can attest to.  And, to put it all in context, best estimates say that only a fraction, maybe 20 - 40 % of what's out there is actually making its way to the search engines.
    Well  ...
Here at DownStreet, we'd like to try to help.  So each issue, we post a few links in House & Home to sites that might interest you.  Sometimes the links will be related to one another  ...  sometimes we'll just offer up a somewhat random sampling.  In either case, we think we might be able to help you find the kind of site you've been looking for.
Of course, while we can't vouch for the fact that every link we provide will be of interest to everyone, we do our best to filter out the noise and the bustle.  ...

Help with Interior Painting Projects

If you're ready to fight off Cabin Fever with an interior painting project, then these links can help.  Heck, simply look at the color charts and that might do the trick.  ...

  • TrueValue/ServiStar: Project Library

Look down the list of project in the left-hand navigation bar and click on Painting & Decorating ... and you're off and running.  ...
    .
The True Value project site has tons of tips on all types of projects.  They even have suggested projects for the month.  So, if you decide that an interior painting project isn't your tankard of ale, you can always find something else to keep those Cabin Fever Blues at bay.  ...  What'll you find in the Painting & Decorating Project Library?  For interior projects, how's about advice on Getting Started, Cleanup, a Shopping List of Essential Materials, or Choosing Color, including subsections on Which White?, Light or Dark Colors, Cool Colors, Warm Colors ... and lots more!?!
    .
Unless you're a master with the brushes and rollers already, you're almost bound tofind something useful here..

  • Sherwin-Williams Do It Yourself / Interior Paint

This link goes directly to the interior painting section of Sherwin-Williams Do It Yourself [DYI] library of helpful How-to's  ...  Simply roll your mouse over the DYI item in the left-hand navigation bar and highlight the item of your choice from the pop-up window.  ...
    .
The interior painting options include a host of how-to's, as well as links to faux finishing and their paint rating chart.  There are also a few other useful tools here, including a Color Selection Guide, Project Planner, and Job Estimator.  The Project Planner is a walk-through series of questions for which you click on what applies to your project.  When you're done, your results are saved.  You can then modify or add to them with spec's for your particular rooms, window & door sizes, etc.  The Job Estimator helps you t figure out exactly how much paint and/or primer you'll need, too.
    .
You may not want to end up buying Sherwin-Williams paint.  But the tools & tips they offer on their site can be a time-saver.

  • Benjamin Moore Color Preview

The Benjamin Moore site, like the others, has lots of info for all sorts of project folks.  But their calculator {re: the Sherwin-Williams Job Estimator} is not as sophisticated.  On the other hand, their Color Preview is a thing of beauty when it comes to internet applets.  ...
    .
    Once the splash screen for the Color Preview has finished, you'll find yourself looking at bookcase and side pedestal.  On the bookcase, mouse over the various sections and you'll see pop-up selections for Color Cards {left}, Color Families {top center}, Strip Chip {bottom center}, Color Collections {top right}, and their TrimChips Chooser.  Any of the selections will take you to a splash of color that'll be welcome on a dreary winter day.  But the TrimChips Chooser is great  -- an on-line tool that lets you choose from a variety of wall-trim combos to get at the kind of colors you'd like.  The 3D Room with a View is potentially the most interesting tool.  Unfortunately, the on-line version appears to be limited to changing the floor pattern only.  {Too bad.  It would have been a nice toy to while away some winter hours playing with full 3-D model combos.}
    .
Despite the 3D Room limitation, however, the Benjamin-Moore site has some nice splashes of color to help you launch your project ideas.  Give it a go.
