It wasn't long before the clouds began to roll in from the Northwest ... high, but thickening along the way.  ...

This gate was erected along a make-shift access road.  ... It's got to be more than 10 years now.  ...  

Crawlers and chippers were at it all day long for weeks, clear-cutting some 70-plus acres to feed the then-new wood chip plant up in Burlington.  ...

Originally, there'd been a sign saying it was a Forest Service 'Experimental' area. 

This sign, the only one left and now showing its age, was posted on the gate.

"But on the other side, it didn't say nothin'."  ...

...

Plenty of trees meet their demise in these woods.  ...  Here, a hemlock toppled, probably from the wind, since the ice storm a couple of years back never made it up to this elevation.  ...

These now-dried wildflowers were hanging over the snow-covered bank of the Beaver Meadow.  ...
