Links to Living Together On-Line
Other Advice Available
On-Line
The amount of info on the web is enormous, as
anyone who's ever tried to run a search can attest to. And, to put it all
in context, best estimates say that only a fraction, maybe 20 - 40 % of what's
out there is actually making its way to the search engines.
Well ...
Here at DownStreet, we'd like to try to help. So
each issue, we post a few links in Living Together to sites that might interest
you. Sometimes the links will be related to one another ...
sometimes we'll just offer up a somewhat random sampling. In either case,
we think we might be able to help you find the kind of site you've been looking
for.
Of course, while we can't vouch for the fact that every link
we provide will be of interest to everyone, we do our best to filter out the
noise and the bustle. ...

Dear
Abby
& Ann
Landers
Our own advice columnist, Gola di Montagni, urged us to
include these two sites if for no other reason than to show
that, like Santa at Macy's, she's not afraid to send folks
to the competition.
.
The Dear Abby sites includes a Write to Dear Abby feature,
the Column, a Dear Abby Archive, a bit About Dear Abby, a
Conversation With Abby, Abby Facts, and Dear Abby
Books. In addition, there's a Special Topics section,
which includes everything from themes like Marriage, Sex,
Homosexuality, and Fooling Around [sic], to Teenagers,
Snoring, and Funny and Sad Stories. {A note: We tried
to access these Special Topics from the image map on the
first page, but couldn't. The map didn't seem to
become active until we clicked on the Special Topics link at
the top!?!}
.
The Ann Landers site is a straight-up shot of Ann, no
chaser. Part of Creators.com, Ann's sub-web will give
you a couple of letters and her answers, as well as the
ability to go back and forth through the archives.
There's also a brief biography of Ann, and a link that
brings up a form you can fill out to write to her.
.
Neither of these sites will take the cake for best
design. But then, that's not why we've been writing to
Abby and Ann for, lo, these many years now, is it?
Ratings: Dear Abby **** [4 stars] ... Ann Landers
***1/2 [3-1/2 stars]

The
Psychology Hall of Fame
Turn around is supposedly fair play. This site
is devoted to examining the lives of psychologists in its
Psychology Hall of Fame.
On the front end, you have the choice of
alphabetical selections or an index. You can choose
the index because, unlike indexes at some sites, this one
is not too long. At the index, you'll find on-line
biographies and other sites of interest for some of the
best-known shrinks and rat psychologists through the ages
{Freud, Jung, Watson, Skinner}, and a fair selection of
others {from Adler, Bandura & Dewey to Vygotsky,
Wertheimer, and Yerkes}.
.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much room in the
Hall for all the folks who we thought ought to be
there. But still, it's an admirable effort at
working with what is available. Rating: ***1/2
[3-1/2 stars]

The
Advice Sisters
The Advice Sisters are ... Well ... We're not quite
sure. This much we do know however.
Their names are Jessica &
Alison. We've heard they're from Brooklyn, NY, but
their mailing address is in Alexandria, VA. They
are also, as they tell us on their site, "genuine
twin sisters, relationship experts, and motivational
speakers with an international following," as well
as "the authors of RECRUITING LOVE: Using The
Business Skills You Have To Find The Love You
Want." Beyond that, the advice they give
seems to zero in on dating, viz., "about some of
the things that make dating horrible, tolerable, and
great!" The real up-side, however, seems to
be that you can get. not one, but two answers to your
questions.
.
Beyond that ... Rating: ???? [4 question marks.
We're at a loss.]
