Links to Radio, Film & TV On-Line

The amount of info on the web is enormous, as anyone who's ever tried to run a search can attest to.  And, to put it all in context, best estimates say that only a fraction, maybe 20 - 40 % of what's out there is actually making its way to the search engines.
    Well  ...
Here at DownStreet, we'd like to try to help.  So each issue, we post a few links in Film, Radio & TV to sites that might interest you.  Sometimes the links will be related to one another  ...  sometimes we'll just offer up a somewhat random sampling.  In either case, we think we might be able to help you find the kind of site you've been looking for.
Of course, while we can't vouch for the fact that every link we provide will be of interest to everyone, we do our best to filter out the noise and the bustle.  ...

Christmas Show Fan Sites

Our list of Best Xmas Shows may have you thinking twice about our choices.  But here's the work of a few folks who've devoted entire sections of their webs or even entire sites to their favorites.

  • A Charlie Brown Christmas

With sound-clips, pictures, and links, this site, with an e-mail link of spectropluto@yahoo.com, is evidently the result of a heart-wrenching story.  In the words of the site's author:

"I received this video about six years ago from my sister, Liz.  At the time, I knew she got it for me at Shell Gas Station because it only cost $5 with a $15 fill-up. "It's the thought that counts" I initially thought. ... The next year was my sister's last Christmas.  She died in the fall of '93 from cancer.  Since then I have watched this video every Holiday Season and think of Lizzie while watching Charlie Brown find the true meaning of Christmas."

It sounds like the script from a manipulative, made-for-TV flick.  But the site is simple, honest, and an obvious product of devotion to his sister.

  • Classic Movies: It's a Wonderful Life

This site is considerably more professional.  ...

You can find links to info about Capra, any of the actors, reviews, other links on the web, articles {including one entitled, "The Affirmation of Civic-Minded Capitalism in Frank Capra's Post-World War II Film, It’s a Wonderful Life"}.  There are also photo galleries, multimedia files ... even a poster gallery, including posters of the film from around the world.

If you're curious about any dimension of the film, this is the site to visit.
    Rating:  ****1/2 [4-1/2 stars]

  • Scrooge (1951)

This link comes from the Internet Movie Database [IMDB].  ...

We didn't find any fan sites for this version of the Dicken's classic.  But if you've never visited IMDB and you're a movie fan, you're in for a pleasant surprise.  This link includes lots of info and other links {as do all IMDB movie pages} to more info on the director, writers, actors, genre, and more.  There's even a trailer you can view if you've never caught the film before.

    Take a peak.  ...

  • Elizabeth's MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET Page
An extensive site with lots of info.
    Rating: ****1/2 [4-1/2 stars]
    .

  • MOVIEWEB:  Michael
Guess there're no die-hard fans of Michael out there.  This one is MovieWeb's contribution.
    Rating: ***1/2 [3-1/2 stars]
