Links
to Working Together On-Line The
amount of info on the web is enormous, as anyone who's ever tried to run a
search can attest to. And, to put it all in context, best estimates say
that only a fraction, maybe 20 - 40 % of what's out there is actually making its
way to the search engines. Well ...
Here at DownStreet, we'd like to try to help. So each issue, we
post a few links in Working Together to sites that might interest you.
Sometimes the links will be related to one another ... sometimes
we'll just offer up a somewhat random sampling. In either case, we think
we might be able to help you find the kind of site you've been looking for.
Of course, while we can't vouch for the fact that every link we provide will be
of interest to everyone, we do our best to filter out the noise and the
bustle. ... We hope you enjoy the following sites as
much as we do. Job Sites for Job Seekers &
Employers Both Vermont
Dept. of Employment & Training The DET's web site
is a solid offering, with its Vermont Job Bank listing hundreds of
opportunities, its Vermont Talent Bank, which provides a resume
listing service useful to both job-seekers and employers. The site
also offers a Help Share classified section for temporary employment
opportunities.
For the week ending 09-25, the DET site had listed the
following stats: New or Edited Resumes Received...92
Job Referral Applications Received... 493 Requests for
Publications... 3 New Job Orders ............. 34
Current Resumes on file...2,500 Over 62,196 Job
Referral Requests received to date... Over 14,198
Resume Transactions received to date... Over 1,569 Job
Listings received to date
That seems like a fairly impressive list to
us for our small state. The site also has direct links to web sites
run by local offices of the DET, including both the Middlebury
and Burlington
offices, as well as a Vermont Employer Resources section.
Rating **** [4 stars]. . America's
Job Bank You'll find the link to this site on the DET
site also. But we're including it here because it provides a solid
resource all on its own for those looking for work, as well as employers
looking to hire.
Similar to the DET, America's Job Bank provides a
comprehensive service, including both job listings and a resume
service. When we visited the site, it listed 1,433,219 available jobs
& 2,493,118 available job seekers who'd posted their resumes. The
one advantage of America's Job Bank is that you can search for employment or
employees beyond the State.
First time visitors looking for jobs can
go straight to the search; however, there is an option for setting up a free
user account. Employers looking to find employees will have to fill
out a brief questionnaire, after which you can browse the available resume
listings, although you will not be able to view the contact info for them
until your registration has been processed, usually 3 business days.
This
is another site worth a look for anyone job hunting or looking for
employees. Rating **** [4 stars]. . Career
Resource Homepage The final offering this issue is
the Career Resource Homepage, a comprehensive directory of all things
internet when it comes to finding the work or the worker you're after.
The
Internet Job Surfer offerings are similar to the sites we've already looked
at. But there's also a few other useful resources here ...
including Employer's Direct, which, as the name implies, take you directly
to employer sites ... and Resume's Direct, which does the same for
employers looking for employees.
In addition to these listings, the
site also maintains a number of links to more targeted on-line employment
services, e.g., to "Career Placement and Cooperative Education Services
provided by educational institutions," "University Human
Resources" {which list both academic & non-academic
positions}, CyberAlumni -- a set of links to alumni services at the schools.
Finally,
the Career Resource Homepage also contains links of links ... a nice set of
links to other on-line career resources. Rating ****1/2 [4 1/2 stars].
