Links to Puzzling Evidence On-Line

The amount of info on the web is enormous, as anyone who's ever tried to run a search can attest to.  And, to put it all in context, best estimates say that only a fraction, maybe 20 - 40 % of what's out there is actually making its way to the search engines.
    Well  ...
Here at DownStreet, we'd like to try to help.  So each issue, we post a few links in Puzzling Evidence to sites that might interest you.  Sometimes the links will be related to one another  ...  sometimes we'll just offer up a somewhat random sampling.  In either case, we think we might be able to help you find the kind of site you've been looking for.
Of course, while we can't vouch for the fact that every link we provide will be of interest to everyone, we do our best to filter out the noise and the bustle.  ...
We hope you enjoy the following sites as much as we do.

Links to a Potpourri of Puzzling Evidence ...

Be forewarned.  You can never be quite sure of what DownStreet's Puzzling Evidence links will lead to.  ...

  • Crosswords, puzzles, publishers, books -- from 4Crosswords.com

Crossword fiend, you say?  Have we got a site for you.  ...
4Anything.com's 4Crosswords site has links to Online Crossword Puzzles, Newspaper Crosswords, Crossword Puzzle Help, Specialty Puzzles, Puzzle Publishers, and Crossword Puzzle Software.  We were particularly curious about which newspapers they had crosswords for, but when we tried to find out, the site kept timing out on us without loading pages.  When we tried a refresh from the main page, still no luck.
    .
Still, that was probably a matter of no more than bad timing.  The 4Crosswords site is still a must visit for crossword lovers.  Rating:  **** [4 stars]

  • Analogies, IQ Tests, Trivia, Puzzles, Contests & Games at Puzz.com

Ok.  You fancy yourself fairly adept at this puzzle business.  Well, why not really put yourself to the test?
    .
Puzz.com's site has just about everything you'd ever want in the way of puzzles.  Not only that, but it links to some puzzle sites where you can collect cash for your efforts.  There are IQ Tests, Games, On-line Trivia contests ... a person could get lost.  There are also links to High IQ societies, as well as teasers derived from same.
    .
If you can't resist a good puzzle, you may be in trouble here.  But whether you're an inveterate puzzle hound or an occasional puzzle puppy, this site is sure to have something in store for you.  Rating:  ***** [5 stars]

  • Nexus Magazine

There's Down Under, then there's Down Under.  This site is actually a bit of both.  ...
    .
What is Nexus Magazine?  It's an on-line magazine that follows the conspiracy theory world {hence, 'Down Under', as in black ops, cover-up's, etc.} ... and it's out of Australia {hence ... Well, you get the idea.}.  In the issue that was up when we visited, there was an article by Michael Parenti {"The Media and Its Atrocities"}, as well as others on everything from the cancer-causing effects of x-rays to the neuro-toxic effects of  food additives like aspartame and MSG.  The main page also contains a list of "Selected Articles," among which we found some favorites like "The Evidence for Ancient Atomic Warfare, Part 1," "The Poltergeist Machine," "Reverse Engineering UFO Technology," and the intriguing "Meetings with Remarkable Aliens."  On the somewhat more disquieting side, there was also one entitled "Urine Therapy: Your Own Perfect Medicine."
    .
But beyond some of the more suspect titles, there are plenty that seem to hit at least some nails squarely on their heads.  The difficulty here is separating the proverbial wheat from the chaff.  Partly out of curiosity and partly because of our own paranoia, we give this site the following ...
