What You Can Do ... and What It Will Mean
PARTICIPATE IN THE NATIONAL OIL BOYCOTT ...
It's ok. Fill up your tank the day before. Get those LP tanks filled
for the bar-B-Q grill, too. ... Just be sure to do it before
Memorial Day. ... It will send a message to Washington, to the oil
conglomerates, and, most of all, to our troops, letting them know that we know
... and we care enough to do something about it.
SPREAD THE WORD ...
The internet can be one of the great tools of modern democracy. Word
can spread quickly, and without censorship. When enough people are
interested and care about something, awareness can grow by leaps and bounds in a
matter of hours or days. ... If you care, get the word out in
whatever way makes the most sense
E-MAIL YOUR SENATORS AND CONGRESSIONAL REP
...
No matter how you may think about the Congress, one thing is almost certain:
They would like to be re-elected. Letting them know that you have your eye
on The War and The Economy, on Big Oil and Washington Lobbies, and that you can
connect the dots, will get their attention.
E-MAIL THE PRESIDENT [P.S.: Good
luck ! ]...
On the one hand, there's no reason not to let the folks in the White House
know that you know what's been going on. Of course, once upon a time, you
could do that by simply e-mailing the President at
president@whitehouse.gov. But back in 2003, the White House changed that.
After that, "those who want to send a message to President Bush must now
navigate as many as nine Web pages and fill out a detailed form that starts by
asking whether the message sender supports White House policy or differs with
it." [Click
here to read the full NY Times report.]
Since that report, it's become both easier and more difficult. Now,
there's a generic e-mail address --
comments@whitehouse.gov -- but no guarantee that even a staffer will glance
at it.
E-MAIL THE VICE PRESIDENT ...
From the looks of things on the Contact page of the White House web site, it's
still relatively easy to contact the VP at
vice_president@whitehouse.gov.
Since his e-mail address is still straightforward, we're pretty sure he'd love
to hear from you.
E-MAIL THE OIL COMPANIES ...
Like the politicians, even Big Oil has to be at least somewhat concerned
about what you think, whether because of bad publicity, or the prospect of
escalating boycotts. Below are the contact pages or e-mails for the major
oil companies.
